So what's the logic behind the the U.S. going to Brazil for ethanol deals as a way to reduce dependence on foreign oil? Isn't that like trading one addiction for another? Related link: U.S. Makes Ethanol Deal with Brazil

Hmm... okay so I might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to foreign relations and political junk, but even *I* know that this is insane. I live in Indiana where there are miles upon miles of corn fields. I would think that we would want to use our own resources, and pay *our* farmers to grow this corn so that we would not have to depend on yet another country for fuel.. duh!! Am I missing something here?

Catfish, as far as I know, we still have enormous grain bins with "surplus" grain, some of it molding and rotting, because of our complex and stupid agricultural system. The US government is still paying some farmers to "set aside" parts of their farmland and not plant crops in it every year. If you are missing something, so am I....the thought that we would import ethanol or ethanol crops seems so ludicrous that it must be true.

Only the Government would do something so dumbfounded!! There isn't a "Common Sense" person in house! It's easy to spend our money elsewhere then give it back to us!

isn't that just like the government! There are plenty of farmers in the US that are barely making it. Why not help them?
